ST4CS is also a free upgrade to all earlier packages that included ST3 as the player (saved me bunches of money when I figured that out). So, if all you want is the single VI, download the CS version of SampleTank and you're good to go. SampleTank 4, like the UVI Player is free and all ST packages include the same player. It also qualifies as part of IK's 25th Anniv. It's good but the velvety midrange doesn't always work for me. My wife really likes the Alan Parsons Imperial from IK - $80 on its own and bundled many other ways. None of these are expensive and some go on sale or get bundled with other VIs. It turned out to be a wise decision, as VSL then got into the game and blew away everyone else. If only the sampling quality was good enough that you can really tell what the instrument should sound like, or much about idiomatic playing styles.ДЄs for their pianos, I never bought those due to no-resale policy and nervousness about quality while other stuff comes out. But they also cover a lot of unusual and/or uncommon instruments.

The user manuals are worth the price of admission though, as they are so well-researched and serve well as musicological texts.ДЄll Garritan libs have massive note-stretching of samples and are very grainy.

The pianos don't have most of the modern features that newer libraries have, regarding pedaling etc., but I only own the Italian II (which can't be resold). I personally consider them some of the worst, but tastes differ. Please let me know your thoughts regarding these VIs if you know them or use them yourself.

Is it worth it to install it and give it another try? I see that they now offer Big Band v3. I never delved deep into this VI and I know I didn't bother really trying to make it sound good with programming CCs. I tried it years ago, and IIRC, the brass instruments sounded plastic and lifeless (in comparison to the VSL stuff). Should I pay the upgrade and try them out? My regular piano is VSL's Vienna Imperial and I LOVE it! IIRC, they seemed to lack many velocity layers and I never warmed up to them.ДЄre any of those piano's better now with newer versions? Would I hear a big difference between Italian Grand v1 VS IG v2? I remember trying out the Synthogy pianos and was not blown away.

Garritan's Jazz and Big Band (the oldest original version) Synthogy's Italian Grand and Ivory (version 1 or a very old one). I found these 2 VIs that I never installed/implemented in my production system, and I've had them for at least a decade.
